Composition and Creativity CMTE Course
Three (3) hour Continuing Music Therapy Education (CMTE) Course

Choose three of the following course modules to register for this course. You will access PayPal to complete your registration and payment process.

Once registration is complete, look for an email from us confirming your registration and giving you the password to access the course modules. We strive to complete this process within 48-72 hours of receipt of payment.

Sing, Play, Move: Explore Your Creative Side

Materials Required:
•Computer with Internet access
•Printer and paper
•Pen/Pencil



Learner Objectives:
•Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
•Participants will complete a learning inventory to examine their personal learning style (CBMT Board Certification Domains: II.5.z; IV.A.1).
•Participants will establish four (4) personal goals addressing creativity and development of therapeutic music experiences for clients (CBMT I.D.6; I.D.9; II.A.2; II.A.5).

Course Outline (all schedules are presented using number of minutes elapsed within the course):
00:00-00:05 – Introduction to the Course
00:05-00:10 – Lecture about multiple function of all materials
00:10-00:45 – Guided brainstorming exercise (participants will be expected to pause the video at several times to complete basic exercises – the lecture lasts approximately 20 minutes of this time with the remaining time to be spent in task completion)
00:45-00:50 – Instructions on how to submit demonstration element

Composition and Creativity: Composition 101: Remembering music theory

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

  • Computer
  • Paper
  • Printer
  • OPTIONAL:
    • Dice
    • Music composition software
    • Staff paper

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
  2. 2.   Participants will compose three (3) original musical pieces based on techniques presented (CBMT Board Certification Domains: II.A.5.a; II.A.5.d; II.A.5.e; II.A.5.f; II.A.5.o)

Composition and Creativity: Composition 102: Songwriting with a Purpose

 

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

  • Computer
  • Paper
  • Printer
  • OPTIONAL:
    • Music composition software
    • Staff paper

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. Composition and Creativity: Getting the Most from Every Therapeutic Music Experience

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

  • Computer
  • Paper
  • Printer
  • Worksheet:
  • OPTIONAL:
    • Music composition software
    • Staff paper

 


Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
  2. Participants will complete two brainstorming processes, indicated through the completion of the course worksheet, to identify multiple goals within therapeutic music experiences to support client goal domains (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.B.3; I.D.6; I.D.10; II.A.2; III.B.1; IV.A.6).

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
  2. Participants will complete two therapeutic music experiences including music composition to support specific client goal domains (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.B.3; I.D.6; I.D.10; II.A.2; III.B.1; IV.A.6).

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

  • Various Therapy Materials - instruments, visual aids, other things commonly used with your clients

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
  2. Participant will complete strategy sheet for at least two different therapy materials indicating awareness of common goal areas addressed by the use of each material (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.10; I.D.12; II.A.2; IV.B.3)

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

  • Songbooks, music sources, poetry books, etc.
  • OPTIONAL (if inspiration strikes):
    • Staff paper or Music writing software
    • Accompanying instrument
    • Access to resources – song books, clip art, visual aids, etc.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I.   2. Participant will complete two themed session strategy plans demonstrating creative thought process and knowledge of client preferences and interests (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.5; I.D.9; I.D.10; I.D.12; I.D.15; II.A.2; II.A.5)

Budget Busters: Things to Create for Your Music Therapy Clients

For this course module, you need the following materials:

Computer with Internet access

Printer and paper

Pen/Pencil

Additional materials will vary based on which project you choose to create!! These include index cards, double-stick tape or glue sticks, Velcro, box cutters, envelopes, stickers, etc. Each project uses different materials (all easily obtained for little cost).


Learning Objectives:
  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
  2. Participant will complete one of the projects presented to support the music therapy treatment of clients (CBMT Board Certification Domains: II.A.2)

Composition and Creativity: Make and Take Generic File Folder Games

For this course module, you will need the following materials:

  • File folder (any size or color)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or double-sided tape
  • Template for game board
  • Decision tree/Worksheet
  • Two pieces of copy weight paper
  • Cardstock paper for cards, dice, or spinner
  • Laminating materials – needed at the end before you use with clients
  • OPTIONAL: stickers, markers or colored pencils, rulers, fancy papers, corner rounder

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will complete demonstration elements (including, but not limited to: theoretical worksheets, therapeutic music experience composition, songwriting, decision trees, and visual aid development) based on concepts of composition and creativity covered by each course module (CBMT Board Certification Domains: I.D.6; I. D. 9; I.D.10; IV.A.6)
  2. Participants will complete a minimum of one (1) generic game board to engage client into music therapy interventions.
  3. Participants will develop game strategies for three (3) music therapy treatment domains using the generic game board created during the course.
