Continuing Music Therapy Education Information
www.musictherapyworks.com offers synchronous (live presentations) and asynchronous (recorded presentations) on topics relevant to music therapists. The course information is available for music therapists after payment is received. Participants have 90 days from time of the symposium. Successful completion of the course includes the completion of the course evaluation.

What: Rhythm to Results: Clinical Innovations in Music Therapy with Adolescents is a conference for music therapists, music therapy interns, and music therapy students who work with adolescents in a variety of settings. This 8 hour conference will be held on August 8, 2026, starting at 11am(EDT)/10am(CDT)/9am(MDT)/8am(PDT).
Learning Objectives:
From Rhythm to Résumé: Music Therapy for Vocational Skill Development – Goal: Attendees will increase understanding of what a vocational skill is within an educational setting by the end of the session. (Demonstration Elements - LO 1: Attendees will identify at least one vocational skill and its application to post-secondary life (4A-7); LO 2: Attendees will increase knowledge of how to create a music based experience to support vocational skills (2D-7); LO 3: Attendees will identify at least one adaptation for communication, learning style, and or issues of accessibility when creating/implementing music based experiences for vocational skills (2D-8); LO 4: Attendees will identify at least one opportunity for collaboration within an educational setting (2D-1, 3A-4).
"What Was I Made For?": Music Therapy for Identity Formation in Adolescence - Participants will name at least one developmental milestone in adolescence (BCD 3A-6); Participants will identify at least one barrier to identity development in adolescence (BCD 2B-6)
Therapeutic Considerations and Musical Tools for Successful Songwriting: MT-Generated Songs – Participants will develop songwriting practices that reflect client needs and strengths, individualized treatment processes, cultural responsiveness and humility, and properties of musical instruments to compose goal-directed music and non-music interventions for use with adolescents.
Preventing the Fire: Hot Topics in Music Therapy When Working with Adolescents – Participants will identify key elements to engaging in music therapy treatment with adolescents in the areas of safety, treatment, and professional development to guide personal continuing education planning (CBMT Board Certification Domains: 1, 2, 3, 15, 18, 19, 26. 27, 29, 30,32, 35, 36, 50, 54, 55, 57,60)
Pushing ALL the Buttons: Identifying Personal Biases in Music Therapy Treatment – Participants will identify three personal biases that affect their interactions with adolescents in music therapy treatment (CBMT Board Certification Domains: 20, 34, 35, 43, 50, 54, 55, 65, 66)

Prerequisites:
This symposium is designed for board certified music therapists but is open to all interested parties. A current CBMT number is required for all therapists seeking credit from the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
Participants who do not have the board certification status will receive a certificate of attendance without the granting of credits at the completion of the course evaluation.
Presenters –
Dr. Anastasia Canfield is a therapist, clinical supervisor, presenter, author, and health scientist in Aurora, Colorado. Her specialties include trauma treatment across the lifespan, creative arts therapies, and ethical decision-making.
Alaina Sheridan (she/her) is a board-certified music therapist working in Lexington, Kentucky. She obtained her undergraduate degrees in music therapy and music education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and went on to earn a Masters in Music Therapy from the University of Kentucky. Her current areas of interest include accessibility and social emotional supports in music environments. Her music experiences specialize in adapted lessons, therapeutic instrument play, early childhood development, and building meaningful relationships with self and others. When not singing, she can be found baking sourdough or playing outside with her family!
Emma Latham (she/her) holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Tennessee at Martin and master’s degree in music therapy from the University of Kentucky. Emma brings diverse experience from her decade of experience as a music instructor, researcher, and current work in instructing the next generation of music therapists. Her clinical experiences include work with early childhood, schools, pediatric populations, older adults, and parent-infant groups.
Debbie Dacus received her B.S. and M.A. degrees in Music Therapy from Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Since 1987, she has enjoyed a private practice, specializing in newborns to adults with varying IDD and ASD. She acted as adjunct faculty and clinical coordinator at TWU for 12 years. Debbie has facilitated in-services and workshops throughout the U.S.
Megan Scott, MT-BC is the owner of Music with Megan, providing quality music therapy services across Southwest Missouri. Her passion is helping people with Intellectual and Developmental differences meet their individual goals.
Mary Jane Landaker, MME, MT-BC (Master of Music Education, Music Therapist- Board Certified) is the owner of www.musictherapyworks.com, offering products and webinars for music therapists. She is involved with the Online Conference for Music Therapists and recently retired as a full-time music therapist for children, adolescents, and young adults with developmental and psychiatric concerns.
